...and 'Welcome' to our New Professional!

December 16 2016

Chippenham Golf Club opened its doors to a new Professional this November when it welcomed Nick Horrocks to the club.
Nick joins the club to coincide with the departure of Bill Creamer when he retired as Head professional earlier in the month. He joins us with sport in his blood and has been a keen sportsman since an early age. Nick excelled as a footballer as well as a golfer as a young teenager, representing Plymouth Schools, Plymouth Argyle and the South West of England at football. As a golfer he joined the China Fleet Country Club in Cornwall at the age of 13, quickly reducing his handicap to 5 before crossing the border back into Devon and particularly Yelverton Golf club where he reduced his handicap to +1 by the age of 18.

Nick represented Cornwall at junior level and Devon at Junior, youth and eventually gained first team honours, representing them for a four year period until turning Professional in 2002 aged 22.

Nick's first club as a Pro was Thurlestone Golf Club. He has followed this up with positions at China Fleet Country Club, Teign Valley Golf Club, Orsett Golf Club in Essex and The Plymouth Golf Centre (American Golf) and finally as Head Professional at Staddon Heights Golf Club, a role he has held for the last six and a half years.

His experiences have helped him gain vast knowledge in custom fitting, retail and coaching as well as being an accomplished player. He has competed on the European Challenge Tour and Europro tour and won many Pro-ams and individual events as well as The South West Winter foursomes in 2014. He has held numerous course records including a 63 at Teign Valley in 2006 which still stands.

As a coach Nick is constantly striving to improve his knowledge and has recently been lucky enough to spend some time with major winners Danny Willett and Henrik Stenson's coach Pete Cowen."
Asked about his future at Chippenham Golf Club Nick commented, “I have many exciting plans for the future at the club and I am also very positive at the opportunities that the role presents and look forward to providing a host of services that are second to none. “ He added “These services are to include a retail shop that competes with the leading high street and internet retailers. We also boast the most comprehensive custom fitting service in the area.”
Nick was keen to note “We benefit from having a full qualified PGA team that are experienced in all areas of the industry. We are extremely fortunate to retain the services of Claire Burrows who is a fantastic coach and will head up our ladies custom fitting service and Justin Hennesey who runs an extensive trolley and buggy repair service. We really do have something special here in Wiltshire”.

A 'Farewell' to our dear Professional

November 8 2016

The beginning of November started with mixed emotions when we said sad farewells to our dear friend and long-standing Professional at the Club, Bill Creamer.  Bill retired on Tuesday, 1st November just short of his 40 years with Chippenham Golf Club.

Information as Broadcasted in the local newspapers Gazette & Herald, Wiltshire Times and National Golf Magazines:

Chippenham Golf Club will lose its longest serving member of staff at the end of the month, their Professional Bill Creamer.
Bill Creamer will be retiring from Chippenham Golf Club at the end of October after serving just short of 40 years as the Head Professional at the club.
Born in 1952, he started playing golf at the tender age of 12 years old and quickly picked the game up with the title Middlesex Junior Champion under his belt by the age of 16. In the early years, Bill competed in many competitions as well as being England’s Boys Trialist.
At the age of 18, he turned professional whilst assisting his guide and mentor Keith Hockey at Muswell Hill Golf Club, London. From here, Bill followed Keith Hockey with a move to Parkstone Golf Club, Poole where he was Assistant Pro and became a qualified member to the PGA in 1973. In May 1977, Bill moved to Chippenham Golf Club as Senior Pro where the club had recently built a new clubhouse and had a large showroom with attached workshop, which provided Bill with the perfect spot to set-up his business. It allowed him to provide his customers a comprehensive service and his days saw him giving professional advice to those who wanted to get in to the game, those who knew a bit about the game but required technical advice together with a fully stocked shop providing an array of golf wear and equipment.
Bill was made an ‘Advanced Fellow’ of the PGA in 2005 which is one of the highest accolades possible in his profession. He has been a PGA Tutor since 1983; with his years of experience and knowledge, Bill has actively helped train up and coming new and young PGA Professionals where he specialises in Equipment Technology.
Highly regarded within the PGA, Bill’s advice and assistance is regularly called upon. Only last week saw Bill at The Belfry where he was assisting the PGA and providing technical advice.
Married to Anita and with a son Will, Bill has lived in the area ever since and already has plans to step back and ‘enjoy the game’ a little more in the years ahead.G:\Marketing\Press Releases\Bill & Nick Handover.jpg
